Exodus 25

Offerings for the Sanctuary

1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “ ^aTell the sons of Israel to take a ^{▼▼Or uplifted offering}contribution for Me; ^cfrom everyone whose heart moves him you shall take My ^{▼▼Or uplifted offering}contribution. 3 This is the ^{▼▼Or uplifted offering}contribution which you are to take from them: gold, silver, and bronze, 4 ^{▼▼Or bluish; LXX hyacinth in color
,} ^gviolet, purple, and scarlet material, fine linen, goat hair, 5 rams’ skins dyed red, ^{▼▼Meaning of the Heb uncertain}fine leather, acacia wood, 6 ⁱoil for lighting, ^jbalsam oil for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense, 7 onyx stones and setting stones for the ^kephod and for the ^{▼▼Or pouch
,} ^mbreastpiece. 8 Have them ⁿconstruct a sanctuary for Me, ^oso that I may dwell among them. 9 ^pAccording to all that I am going to show you as the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furniture, so you shall construct it.

Ark of the Covenant

10 “Now ^qthey shall construct an ^{▼▼I.e., chest}ark of acacia wood ^{▼▼About 3.7 ft. long and 2.2 ft. wide and high or 1.1 m and 68 cm}two and a half cubits ^{▼▼Lit its length}long, one and a half cubits ^{▼▼Lit its width}wide, and one and a half cubits ^{▼▼Lit its height}high. 11 You shall ^woverlay it with pure gold, inside and out you shall overlay it, and you shall make a gold molding ^{▼▼Lit on it round about}around it. 12 You shall also cast four gold rings for it and ^{▼▼Or put}fasten them on its four feet; two rings shall be on one side of it, and two rings on the other side of it. 13 And you shall make poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. 14 You shall put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark, to carry the ark with them. 15 The ^zpoles shall ^{▼▼Lit be}remain in the rings of the ark; they shall not be removed from it. 16 You shall ^abput into the ark the testimony which I shall give you.

17 “And you shall ^acmake ^{▼▼Also called a mercy seat, and so throughout the ch; i.e., where blood was sprinkled on the Day of Atonement}an atoning cover of pure gold, ^{▼▼About 3.7 ft. long and 2.2 ft. wide or 1.1 m and 68 cm}two and a half cubits ^{▼▼Lit its length}long and one and a half cubits ^{▼▼Lit its width}wide. 18 You shall make two cherubim of gold; make them of hammered work ^{▼▼Lit from}at the two ends of the atoning cover. 19 Make one cherub ^{▼▼Lit from}at one end and one cherub ^{▼▼Lit from}at the other end; you shall make the cherubim of one piece ^{▼▼Lit from}with the atoning cover at its two ends. 20 And ^althe cherubim shall have their wings spread upward, covering the atoning cover with their wings and ^{▼▼Lit their faces to}facing one another; the faces of the cherubim are to be turned toward the atoning cover. 21 Then ^anyou shall put the atoning cover ^{▼▼Lit above, upon}on top of the ark, and ^apin the ark you shall put the testimony which I will give to you. 22 ^aqThere I will meet with you; and from above the atoning cover, from ^arbetween the two cherubim which are upon the ark of the testimony, I will speak to you about ^{▼▼Lit all that I will command}every commandment that I will give you for the sons of Israel.

Bread of the Presence

23 “ ^atYou shall also make a table of acacia wood, ^{▼▼About 3 ft. long, 1.5 ft. wide, 2.25 ft. high or 90 cm, 45 cm, and 68 cm}two cubits ^{▼▼Lit its length}long and one cubit ^{▼▼Lit its width}wide, and one and a half cubits ^{▼▼Lit its height}high. 24 You shall overlay it with pure gold and make a gold ^ayborder around it. 25 And you shall make for it a rim of a ^{▼▼About 3 in. or 7.5 cm}hand width around it; and you shall make a gold border for the rim around it. 26 You shall also make four gold rings for it and put rings on the four corners which are on its four legs. 27 The rings shall be close to the rim, as holders for the poles to carry the table. 28 And you shall make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold, so that with them the table may be carried. 29 You shall also make its ^badishes, its pans, its jars, and its libation bowls with which to pour drink offerings; you shall make them of pure gold. 30 And you shall set ^bbthe bread of the ^{▼▼Lit Face}Presence on the table before Me continually.

The Golden Lampstand

31 “ ^bdThen you shall make a lampstand of pure gold. The lampstand, its base and its shaft, are to be made of hammered work; its cups, its ^{▼▼Or calyx}bulbs, and its flowers shall be of one piece with it. 32 ^bfSix branches shall go out from its sides; three branches of the lampstand from its one side and three branches of the lampstand from its ^{▼▼Lit second}other side. 33 ^bhThree cups shall be shaped like almond blossoms on the one branch, a ^{▼▼Or calyx}bulb and a flower, and three cups shaped like almond blossoms on the ^{▼▼Lit one branch}other branch, a ^{▼▼Or calyx}bulb and a flower--the same for six branches going out from the lampstand; 34 and ^blon the lampstand four cups shaped like almond blossoms, its ^{▼▼Or calyxes}bulbs and its flowers. 35 ^bnA ^{▼▼Or calyx}bulb shall be under the first pair of branches coming out of it, and a ^{▼▼Or calyx}bulb under the second pair of branches coming out of it, and a ^{▼▼Or calyx}bulb under the third pair of branches coming out of it, for the six branches coming out of the lampstand. 36 ^brTheir ^{▼▼Or calyxes}bulbs and their branches shall be of one piece with it; all of it shall be one piece of hammered work of pure gold. 37 Then you shall make its lamps seven in number; and ^btthey shall ^{▼▼Lit raise up}mount its lamps so as to shed light on the space in front of it. 38 Its tongs and its trays shall be of pure gold. 39 It shall be made from a ^{▼▼About 75 lb. or 34 kg}talent of pure gold, with all these utensils. 40 ^bwSee that you make them ^bxby the pattern for them, which was shown to you on the mountain.

Exodus 26

Curtains of Linen

1 “ ^byMoreover, you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine twisted linen and ^{▼▼Or bluish; LXX hyacinth in color, and so throughout the ch}violet, purple, and scarlet material; you shall make them with cherubim, the work of a skilled embroiderer. 2 The length of each curtain shall be ^{▼▼About 42 ft. long and 6 ft. wide or 13 m and 1.8 m}twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; all the curtains shall have ^{▼▼Lit one measure}the same measurements. 3 Five curtains shall be ^{▼▼Or coupled}joined to one another, and the other five curtains shall be ^{▼▼Or coupled}joined to one another. 4 You shall make loops of violet on the edge of the ^{▼▼Lit one curtain from the end in the coupling}outermost curtain in the first set, and likewise you shall make them on the edge of the curtain that is outermost in the second ^{▼▼Lit coupling}set. 5 You shall make fifty loops in the one curtain, and you shall make fifty loops on the ^{▼▼Lit end}edge of the curtain that is in the second ^{▼▼Lit coupling}set; the loops shall be opposite each other. 6 You shall also make fifty clasps of gold, and ^{▼▼Or couple}join the curtains to one another with the clasps so that the ^{▼▼Or dwelling place, and so throughout the ch}tabernacle will be a unit.

Curtains of Goats’ Hair

7 “Then ^ckyou shall make curtains of goats’ hair as a tent over the tabernacle; you shall make eleven curtains in all. 8 The length of each curtain shall be ^{▼▼About 45 ft. long and 6 ft. wide or 13.5 m and 1.8 m}thirty cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; the eleven curtains shall have ^{▼▼Lit one measure}the same measurements. 9 You shall ^{▼▼Or couple}join five curtains by themselves and the other six curtains by themselves, and you shall double over the sixth curtain ^{▼▼Lit toward the front of the face of the tent}at the front of the tent. 10 You shall make fifty loops on the edge of the ^{▼▼Lit one curtain}curtain that is outermost in the first ^{▼▼Lit coupling}set, and fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that is outermost in the second ^{▼▼Lit coupling}set.

11 “You shall also make fifty clasps of ^{▼▼Or copper}bronze, and you shall put the clasps into the loops and ^{▼▼Or couple}join the tent together so that it will be ^{▼▼Lit one}a unit. 12 The ^{▼▼Lit excess}overhanging part that is left over in the curtains of the tent, the half curtain that is left over, shall hang over the back of the tabernacle. 13 The ^{▼▼About 18 in. or about 45 cm}cubit on one side and the cubit on the other, of what is left over in the length of the curtains of the tent, shall hang over the sides of the tabernacle on one side and on the other, to cover it. 14 And ^cxyou shall make a covering for the tent of rams’ skins ^{▼▼Or tanned}dyed red and a covering of ^{▼▼Meaning of the Heb uncertain}fine leather above.

Boards and Bases

15 “Then you shall make ^dathe boards for the tabernacle of acacia wood, standing upright. 16 ^{▼▼About 15 ft. long and 2.2 ft. wide or 4.6 m and 68 cm}Ten cubits shall be the length of ^{▼▼Lit the}each board and one and a half cubits the width of each board. 17 There shall be two tenons for each board, ^{▼▼Lit bound}fitted to one another; that is what you shall do for all the boards of the tabernacle. 18 You shall make the boards for the tabernacle: twenty boards ^{▼▼Lit toward the side of the Negev to the south}for the south side. 19 You shall make forty ^dfbases of silver under the twenty boards, two bases under one board for its two tenons and two bases under another board for its two tenons; 20 and for the second side of the tabernacle, on the north side, twenty boards, 21 and their forty bases of silver; two bases under one board and two bases under another board. 22 For the ^{▼▼Lit far parts}back of the tabernacle, to the west, you shall make six boards. 23 You shall make two boards for the corners of the tabernacle at the ^{▼▼Lit far parts}back. 24 They shall be double beneath, and together they shall be complete ^{▼▼Or at its head}to its top ^{▼▼Or with reference to}to the first ring; this is how it shall be with both of them: they shall form the two corners. 25 And there shall be eight boards with their bases of silver, sixteen bases; two bases under one board and two bases under another board.

26 “Then you shall make ^dkbars of acacia wood, five for the boards of one side of the tabernacle, 27 and five bars for the boards of the ^{▼▼Lit second}other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the boards of the side of the tabernacle for the ^{▼▼Lit far parts}back side to the west. 28 The middle bar in the ^{▼▼Lit midst}center of the boards shall pass through from end to end. 29 And you shall overlay the boards with gold, and make their rings of gold as holders for the bars; and you shall overlay the bars with gold. 30 Then you shall erect the tabernacle ^doaccording to its plan which you have been shown on the mountain.

The Veil and Curtain

31 “You shall also make ^dpa veil of violet, purple, and scarlet material, and fine twisted linen; it shall be made with cherubim, the work of a skilled embroiderer. 32 Then you shall ^{▼▼Lit put}hang it on four pillars of acacia overlaid with gold, their hooks also of gold, on four bases of silver. 33 You shall ^{▼▼Lit put}hang up the veil under the clasps, and bring in ^dsthe ark of the testimony there within the veil; and the veil shall ^{▼▼Lit separate for you between}serve as a partition for you ^dubetween the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place. 34 ^dvYou shall put the ^{▼▼Also called mercy seat; i.e., where blood was sprinkled on the Day of Atonement}atoning cover on the ark of the testimony in the Most Holy Place. 35 And ^dxyou shall set the table outside the veil, and the ^dylampstand opposite the table on the side of the tabernacle toward the south; and you shall put the table on the north side.

36 “ ^dzYou shall also make a curtain for the doorway of the tent of violet, purple, and scarlet material and fine twisted linen, the work of a ^{▼▼Lit variegator; i.e., a weaver in colors}weaver. 37 And ^ebyou shall make five pillars of acacia for the curtain and overlay them with gold, their hooks also of gold; and you shall cast five bases of ^{▼▼Or copper}bronze for them.

Exodus 27:1-19

The Bronze Altar

1 “Now you shall make ^edthe altar of acacia wood, ^{▼▼About 7.5 ft. or 2.3 m}five cubits long and five cubits wide; the altar shall be square, and its height shall be ^{▼▼About 4.5 ft. or 1.4 m}three cubits. 2 You shall make ^egits horns on its four corners; its horns shall be of one piece with it, and you shall overlay it with ^{▼▼Or copper, and so for bronze throughout the ch}bronze. 3 And you shall make its pails for removing its ashes, and its shovels, its basins, its forks, and its firepans; you shall make all its utensils of bronze. 4 You shall also make for it a grating, a netting of bronze, and on the netting you shall make four bronze rings ^{▼▼Lit on}at its four corners. 5 And you shall put it under the ledge of the altar, so that the netting will reach halfway up the altar. 6 You shall also make carrying poles for the altar, poles of acacia wood and overlay them with bronze. 7 Its poles shall be inserted into the rings, so that the poles will be on the two sides of the altar ^ejwhen it is carried. 8 You shall make it hollow with planks; ^ekas it was shown to you on the mountain, so they shall make it.

Courtyard of the Tabernacle

9 “Now you shall make ^elthe courtyard of the ^{▼▼Or dwelling place}tabernacle. ^{▼▼Lit For the side of the Negev to the south}On the south side there shall be hangings for the courtyard of fine twisted linen, a ^{▼▼About 150 ft. or 46 m}hundred cubits long for one side; 10 and its pillars shall be twenty, with their twenty bases of bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their ^{▼▼Or rings}bands shall be of silver. 11 Likewise for the north side in length there shall be hangings a ^{▼▼About 150 ft. or 46 m}hundred cubits long, and its twenty pillars with their twenty bases of bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their bands shall be of silver. 12 For the width of the courtyard on the west side shall be hangings of ^{▼▼About 75 ft. or 23 m}fifty cubits, with their ten pillars and their ten bases. 13 The width of the courtyard on the ^{▼▼Lit east side eastward}east side shall be fifty cubits. 14 The hangings for the one ^{▼▼Lit shoulder}side of the gate shall be ^{▼▼About 23 ft. or 6.8 m}fifteen cubits, with their three pillars and their three bases. 15 And for the ^{▼▼Lit second}other ^{▼▼Lit shoulder}side there shall be hangings of fifteen cubits, with their three pillars and their three bases. 16 And for the gate of the courtyard there shall be a curtain of ^{▼▼About 30 ft. or 9 m}twenty cubits, of ^{▼▼Or bluish; LXX hyacinth in color}violet, purple, and scarlet material and fine twisted linen, the work of a ^{▼▼Lit variegator; i.e., a weaver in colors}weaver, with their four pillars and their four bases. 17 All the pillars around the courtyard shall be joined together with silver, with their hooks of silver and their bases of bronze. 18 The length of the courtyard shall be a ^{▼▼About 150 ft. long, 75 ft. wide, and 7.5 ft. high or about 46 m, 23 m, and 2.3 m}hundred cubits, and the width fifty throughout, and the height five cubits of fine twisted linen, and their bases of bronze. 19 All the utensils of the tabernacle used in all its service, and all its pegs, and all the pegs of the courtyard, shall be of bronze.
