The Fertility of Zion


1aShout for joy, infertile one, you who have not given birth to any child;
Break forth into joyful shouting and cry aloud, you who have not been in labor;
For the sons of the bdesolate one will be cmore numerous
Than the sons of the married woman,” says the Lord.

2dEnlarge the place of your tent;
Lit Let them stretch out
Stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, do not spare them;
Lengthen your fropes
And strengthen your gpegs.

3 “For you will hspread out to the right and to the left.
And your
Lit seed
descendants will jpossess nations
And will kresettle the desolate cities.


4 “Fear not, for you will lnot be put to shame;
And do not feel humiliated, for you will not be disgraced;
But you will forget the mshame of your youth,
And no longer remember the ndisgrace of your widowhood.

5 “For your ohusband is your Maker,
Whose name is the Lord of armies;
And your pRedeemer is the Holy One of Israel,
Who is called the qGod of all the earth.

6 “For the Lord has called you,
Like a wife rforsaken and grieved in spirit,
Even like a wife of one’s youth when she is rejected,”
Says your God.

But with great compassion I will ugather you.

woutburst of anger
I hid My face from you for a moment,
But with everlasting xfavor I will yhave compassion on you,”
Says the Lord your zRedeemer.

this is like the days of Noah to Me,
When I swore that the waters of Noah
Would abnot

flood the earth again;
So I have sworn that I will adnot be angry with you
Nor rebuke you.

10 “For the aemountains may be removed and the hills may shake,
But My
Or faithfulness
favor will not be removed from you,
Nor will My agcovenant of peace be shaken,”
Says ahthe Lord who has compassion on you.


11aiAfflicted one, storm-tossed, and ajnot comforted,
Behold, I will set your stones in antimony,
And I will aklay your foundations with
Or lapis lazuli
,
amsapphires.

12 “Moreover, I will make your battlements of
I.e., bright red
rubies,
And your gates of
Or carbuncles
crystal,
And your entire
Lit border, boundary
wall of precious stones.

13aqAll your sons will be
Or disciples of
taught by the Lord;
And the well-being of your sons will be asgreat.

14 “In atrighteousness you will be established;
You will be far from auoppression, for you will avnot fear;
And from awterror, for it will not come near you.

15 “If anyone fiercely attacks you, it will not be from Me.
axWhoever attacks you will fall because of you.

16 “Behold, I Myself have created the smith who blows on the fire of coals
And produces a weapon for its work;
And I have created the destroyer to inflict ruin.

17ayNo weapon that is formed against you will succeed;
And you will condemn azevery tongue that
Lit rises against
accuses you in judgment.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their bbvindication is from Me,” declares the Lord.

And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and bkeat what is good,
And bldelight yourself in abundance.

3bmIncline your ear and come to Me.
Listen, that
Lit your soul
you may bolive;
And I will make bpan everlasting covenant with you,
According to the bqfaithful mercies

4 “Behold, I have made bshim a witness to the peoples,
A btleader and commander for the peoples.

5 “Behold, you will call a bunation you do not know,
And a nation which does not know you will bvrun to you,
Because of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel;
For He has bwglorified you.”
