Refuge in the Lord

1 For the choir director. Davidic.

I have taken refuge in the Lord. ^a
How can you say to me,
“Escape to the mountain like a bird! ^{▼▼Lit to your mountain, bird
,} ^c
2 For look, the wicked string the bow;
they put the ^{▼▼Lit their} arrow on the bowstring
to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. ^e
3 When the foundations are destroyed,
what can the righteous do?” ^f

4 The Lord is in His holy temple; ^g
the Lord’s throne is in heaven. ^h
His eyes watch; He examines ^{▼▼Lit His eyelids examine} ^{▼▼everyone/ human race: Literally, sons of man or sons of Adam}everyone.
5 The Lord examines the righteous and the wicked.
He hates the lover of violence. ^k
6 He will rain burning coals ^{▼▼Sym; MT reads rain snares, fire} and sulfur on the wicked;
a scorching wind will be their portion. ^{▼▼Lit be the portion of their cup

7 For the Lord is righteous; He loves righteous deeds.
The upright will see His face. ^o
