Psalms 73
BOOK 3
The End of the Wicked Contrasted with That of the Righteous.
A Psalm of Asaph.
1 Surely God is agood to Israel,To those who are bpure in heart!
2But as for me, cmy feet came close to stumbling,
My steps ▼
▼ Lit were caused to slip
had almost slipped.3For I was eenvious of the ▼
▼ Or boasters
arrogantAs I saw the gprosperity of the wicked.
4For there are no pains in their death,
And their ▼
▼ Or belly
body is fat.5They are inot ▼
▼ Lit in the trouble of men
in trouble as other ▼▼ Or mortals
men,Nor are they lplagued ▼
▼ Lit with
like mankind.6Therefore pride is ntheir necklace;
The ogarment of violence covers them.
7Their eye ▼
▼ Lit goes forth
bulges from qfatness;The imaginations of their heart ▼
▼ Lit overflow
run riot.8They smock and ▼
▼ Or they speak in wickedness; From on high they speak of oppression
wickedly speak of oppression;They uspeak from on high.
9They have vset their mouth ▼
▼ Or in
against the heavens,And their tongue ▼
▼ Lit walks
parades through the earth.10Therefore ▼
▼ Or His
his people return to this place,And waters of zabundance are ▼
▼ Lit drained out
drunk by them.11They say, ab“How does God know?
And is there knowledge ▼
▼ Lit in
with the Most High?”12Behold, adthese are the wicked;
And always aeat ease, they have increased in wealth.
13Surely afin vain I have ▼
▼ Or cleansed my heart
kept my heart pureAnd ahwashed my hands in innocence;
14For I have been stricken aiall day long
And ▼
▼ Lit my chastening
,
akchastened every morning.15If I had said, “I will speak thus,”
Behold, I would have betrayed the algeneration of Your children.
16When I ampondered to understand this,
It was ▼
▼ Lit labor, trouble
troublesome in my sight17Until I came into the ▼
▼ Lit sanctuaries
,
apsanctuary of God;Then I perceived their aqend.
18Surely You set them in arslippery places;
You cast them down to ▼
▼ Lit ruins
,
atdestruction.19How they are ▼
▼ Lit become a desolation
,
avdestroyed in a moment!They are utterly swept away by awsudden terrors!
20Like a axdream when one awakes,
O Lord, when ayaroused, You will azdespise their ▼
▼ Or image
form.21When my bbheart was embittered
And I was bcpierced ▼
▼ Lit in my kidneys
within,22Then I was besenseless and ignorant;
I was like ▼
▼ Or an animal
a bgbeast ▼▼ Lit with You
before You.23Nevertheless biI am continually with You;
You have taken hold of my right hand.
24With Your counsel You will bjguide me,
And afterward bkreceive me ▼
▼ Or with honor
to glory.25 bmWhom have I in heaven but You?
And ▼
▼ Or with
besides You, I desire nothing on earth.26My boflesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the ▼
▼ Lit rock
strength of my heart and my bqportion forever.27For, behold, brthose who are far from You will bsperish;
You have ▼
▼ Or silenced
destroyed all those who ▼▼ Lit go to a whoring from
,
bvare unfaithful to You.28But as for me, bwthe nearness of God is my good;
I have made the Lord ▼
▼ Heb YHWH, usually rendered Lord
God my byrefuge,That I may bztell of all Your works.
