Revelation of John 17
The Doom of Babylon
1 aThen one of the bseven angels who had the cseven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here, I will show you dthe judgment of the egreat harlot who fsits on many waters, 2with whom gthe kings of the earth committed acts of immorality, and hthose who dwell on the earth were imade drunk with the wine of her immorality.” 3And jhe carried me away ▼▼ Or in spirit
,
lin the Spirit minto a wilderness; and I saw a woman sitting on a nscarlet beast, full of oblasphemous names, having pseven heads and ten horns. 4The woman qwas clothed in purple and scarlet, and ▼▼ Lit gilded
adorned with gold and precious ▼▼ Lit stone
stones and pearls, having in her hand ta gold cup full of abominations and of the unclean things of her immorality, 5and on her forehead a name was written, a umystery, v“BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF wTHE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” 6And I saw the woman drunk with xthe blood of the ▼▼ Or holy ones
saints, and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus. When I saw her, I wondered ▼▼ Lit with great wonder
greatly. 7And the angel said to me, “Why ▼▼ Lit have you wondered
do you wonder? I will tell you the abmystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the acseven heads and the ten horns. 8 ad“The beast that you saw aewas, and is not, and is about to afcome up out of the agabyss and ▼▼ One early ms reads is going

aigo to destruction. And ajthose who dwell on the earth, akwhose name has not been written in the book of life alfrom the foundation of the world, will amwonder when they see the beast, that he was and is not and will come. 9 an“Here is the mind which has wisdom. The aoseven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits, 10and they are seven apkings; five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; and when he comes, he must remain a little while. 11“The beast which aqwas and is not, is himself also an eighth and is one of the seven, and he argoes to destruction. 12“The asten horns which you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings with the beast atfor one hour. 13“These have auone ▼▼ Or mind
purpose, and they give their power and authority to the beast. Victory for the Lamb
14“These will wage awwar against the Lamb, and the Lamb will axovercome them, because He is ayLord of lords and azKing of kings, and bathose who are with Him are the bbcalled and chosen and faithful.” 15 And he said to me, “The bcwaters which you saw where the harlot sits, are bdpeoples and multitudes and nations and tongues. 16“And the beten horns which you saw, and the beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her bfdesolate and bgnaked, and will bheat her flesh and will biburn her up with fire. 17“For bjGod has put it in their hearts to execute His ▼▼ Or mind
purpose ▼▼ Lit even to do one mind and to give
by bmhaving a common purpose, and by giving their kingdom to the beast, until the bnwords of God will be fulfilled. 18“The woman whom you saw is bothe great city, which ▼▼ Lit has a kingdom
reigns over the kings of the earth.”
