Romans 3
All the World Guilty
1Then what ▼▼ Lit is the advantage of the Jew
advantage has the Jew? Or what is the benefit of circumcision? 2Great in every respect. First of all, that bthey were entrusted with the coracles of God. 3What then? If dsome ▼▼ Or were unfaithful
did not believe, their ▼▼ Or unfaithfulness
unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of God, will it? 4 gMay it never be! Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found ha liar, as it is written, i“That You may be justified in Your words,And prevail when You ▼
▼ Lit in Your judging
are judged.”5But if our unrighteousness ▼
▼ Or commends
,
ldemonstrates the righteousness of God, mwhat shall we say? The God who inflicts wrath is not unrighteous, is He? ( nI am speaking in human terms.) 6 oMay it never be! For otherwise, how will pGod judge the world? 7But if through my lie qthe truth of God abounded to His glory, rwhy am I also still being judged as a sinner? 8And why not say (as we are slanderously reported and as some claim that we say), s“Let us do evil that good may come”? ▼▼ Lit Whose
Their condemnation is just. 9What then? ▼▼ Or Are we worse
,
vAre we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both wJews and xGreeks are yall under sin; 10as it is written, z“There is none righteous, not even one;11 There is none who understands,
There is none who seeks for God;
12 All have turned aside, together they have become useless;
There is none who does good,
There is not even one.”
13 aa“Their throat is an open grave,
With their tongues they keep deceiving,”
ab“The poison of asps is under their lips”;
14 ac“Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness”;
15 ad“Their feet are swift to shed blood,
16 Destruction and misery are in their paths,
17 And the path of peace they have not known.”
18 ae“There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
19Now we know that whatever the afLaw says, it speaks to agthose who are ▼
▼ Lit in
under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and aiall the world may become accountable to God; 20because ajby the works ▼▼ Or of law
of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for ▼▼ Or through law
,
amthrough the Law comes the knowledge of sin. Justification by Faith
21But now apart ▼▼ Or from law
from the Law ao the righteousness of God has been manifested, being apwitnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22even the aqrighteousness of God through arfaith asin Jesus Christ for atall those ▼▼ Or who believe. For there is no distinction, since they all have sinned...and are being justified
who believe; for avthere is no distinction; 23for all ▼▼ Or sinned
,
axhave sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24being justified as a gift ayby His grace through azthe redemption which is in Christ Jesus; 25whom God displayed publicly as baa ▼▼ Or a propitiatory sacrifice
propitiation ▼▼ Or by
,
bdin His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, ▼▼ Lit because of the passing over of the sins previously committed in the forbearance of God
because in the bfforbearance of God He bgpassed over the sins previously committed; 26for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who ▼▼ Lit is of the faith of Jesus
has faith in Jesus. 27Where then is biboasting? It is excluded. By bjwhat kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith. 28 ▼▼ One early ms reads Therefore
For blwe maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works ▼▼ Or of law
of the Law. 29Or bnis God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, 30since indeed boGod bpwho will justify the ▼▼ Lit circumcision
circumcised ▼▼ Lit out of
by faith and the ▼▼ Lit uncircumcision
uncircumcised through faith btis one. 31Do we then nullify ▼▼ Or law
the Law through faith? bvMay it never be! On the contrary, we bwestablish the Law.
