Exodus 30:11-16
11 The Lord also spoke to Moses, saying, 12“When you take aa ▼▼Lit sum
census of the sons of Israel ▼▼Lit for their being mustered
to count them, then each one of them shall give da ransom for ▼▼Lit his soul
himself to the Lord, when you ▼▼Lit muster
count them, so that there will be no plague among them when you ▼▼Lit muster
count them. 13This is what everyone who ▼▼Lit passes over to those who are mustered
is counted shall give: half a ▼▼A shekel was about 0.5 oz. or 14 gm
shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary ( jthe shekel is twenty gerahs), half a shekel as a ▼▼Or uplifted offering
contribution to the Lord. 14Everyone who ▼▼See note 1 v 13
is counted, from twenty years old and over, shall give the ▼▼Or uplifted offering of the Lord
contribution to the Lord. 15The rich shall not pay more, and the poor shall not pay less, than the half shekel, when you give the ▼▼Or uplifted offering of the Lord
contribution to the Lord to make atonement for ▼▼Lit your souls
yourselves. 16And you shall take the atonement money from the sons of Israel and give it for the service of the tent of meeting, so that it may be a memorial for the sons of Israel before the Lord, to make atonement for ▼▼Lit your souls
yourselves.”
