On this passage the Jews lay great stress; and it is one of the four passages which they write on their phylacteries: On the word {Elohim,} Simeon Ben Joachi says: "Come and see the mystery of the word {Elohim:} there are three degrees, and each degree is by itself alone, and yet they are all one, and joined together in one, and are not divided from each other." the Lord,4:35,36; 5:6; 1Ki 18:21; 2Ki 19:5; 1Ch 29:10; Isa 42:8; 44:6,8Isa 45:5,6; Jer 10:10,11; Mr 12:29-32; Joh 17:3; 1Co 8:4-61Ti 2:5 thou shalt.10:12; 11:13; 30:6; Mt 22:37; Mr 12:30,33; Lu 10:27; 1Jo 5:3God with all.4:29; 2Ki 23:25; Mt 10:37; Joh 14:20,21; 2Co 5:14,15 shall be.11:18; 32:46; Ps 37:31; 40:8; 119:11,98; Pr 2:10,11; 3:1-3,5; 7:3Isa 51:7; Jer 31:33; Lu 2:51; 8:15; 2Co 3:3; Col 3:16; 2Jo 1:2 And thou shalt.2; 4:9,10; 11:19; Ge 18:19; Ex 12:26,27; 13:14,15; Ps 78:4-6Eph 6:4teach. Dr. Kennicott argues that without the word only, the text would not have conclusive for the purpose for which our Lord advanced it. It is proper, however, to observe, that the word {levaddo} is not found in any MS. yet collated, though retained in the above versions. shalt swear.Le 19:12; Jos 2:12; Ps 15:4; 63:11; Isa 45:23; 65:16; Jer 4:2; 5:2,7Jer 12:16 not go.8:19; 11:28; Ex 34:14-16; Jer 25:6; 1Jo 5:21of the gods.13:7 is a jealous.4:24; Ex 20:5; Am 3:2; 1Co 10:22lest.7:4; 11:17; Nu 32:10-15; 2Ch 36:16; Ps 90:7,11destroy.Ge 7:4; Ex 32:12; 1Ki 13:34; Am 9:8 tempt.Mt 4:7; Lu 4:12tempted him.Ex 17:2,7; Nu 20:3,4,13; 21:4,5; Ps 95:8,9; 1Co 10:9; Heb 3:8,9 1,2; 11:13,22; Ex 15:26; Ps 119:4; 1Co 15:58; Tit 3:8; Heb 6:112Pe 1:5-10; 3:14 shalt do.8:11; 12:25,28; 13:18; Ex 15:26; Ps 19:11; Isa 3:10; Eze 18:5,19,21Eze 18:27; 33:14,16,19; Ho 14:9; Joh 8:29; Ro 12:2that it may.4:40; 5:29,33 Ex 23:28-30; Nu 33:52,53; Jud 2:1-3; 3:1-4 when thy son.7; Ex 12:26; 13:14; Jos 4:6,7,21-24; Pr 22:6in time to come.
